Every reseller makes mistakes starting out. These are the 10 most common ones — and how to skip them entirely.
The #1 mistake. You think you're making $20 but after Poshmark's 20% cut you're making $16. After shipping? Maybe $9. Always run your numbers first through the FeePilot calculator.
If you bought it for $15 and sold it for $25, you didn't make $25. You made $10 minus fees minus shipping. Always track what you paid for every item.
Dark, blurry, cluttered backgrounds. Good photos = faster sales. Use natural light, a plain background, and multiple angles. 60 seconds of effort, 2x the results.
Start with one platform. Learn it well. Expand to 2–3 after you're comfortable. Crosslisting too early = inventory nightmares and double-selling.

Slow responses = lost sales. Answer questions within a few hours. On Poshmark and Depop, engagement (shares, follows) directly affects visibility.
Each platform has quirks. Poshmark requires sharing to get visibility. eBay rewards Top Rated sellers with fee discounts. Depop's old listings still carry 10% fees unless updated. Know your platform.
If you're not tracking, you don't know if you're actually making money. Use a spreadsheet or FeePilot's CSV export. Track: item, cost, sale price, fees, shipping, profit.
Your first 10 items might not sell for weeks. That's normal. It takes time to learn what sells, how to photograph, how to price. Most successful resellers say the first 30 days are the hardest.
