Listing the same item on multiple platforms at the same time. Why: more eyeballs = faster sales. The risk: double-selling (selling the same item to two buyers). The key: have a system to delist immediately when an item sells.
Different platforms have different buyers. A vintage jacket might sit on eBay for weeks but sell in 2 days on Depop. A gaming console might get lowball offers on Mercari but sell at full price on eBay. Cross-listing increases your chances of finding the right buyer at the right price.
The biggest risk of cross-listing. Item sells on Mercari but you forgot to delist from eBay. Now you have two buyers and one item.
Solution: Set phone alerts. As SOON as an item sells anywhere, immediately mark it sold/delete on all other platforms. Better yet: use a crosslisting tool.
Manual works fine for <50 active listings. Over 50, a tool saves hours per week.
Don't use the same price everywhere. eBay's 13.6% fee means you need to price higher than Mercari's 10% to net the same profit. Use FeePilot's reverse calculator to calculate the right price per platform to hit your target take-home.
Start with 2. Master those before adding a third. Diminishing returns after 3β4 platforms for most sellers. Each platform requires time to manage listings, respond to messages, and ship. Time spent managing 7 platforms could be better spent sourcing better inventory.
