When you offer "free shipping," you're absorbing the shipping cost. A $30 item with $7 free shipping costs you $7 off the top.

Platforms like eBay and Etsy still charge fees on the full amount including shipping — even if shipping is $0 to the buyer. So free shipping doesn't reduce your fees.

When Free Shipping Helps

Lightweight items (<1 lb) where shipping is $3–5 — easy to absorb.
High-margin items where $5–7 shipping won't hurt.
Competitive categories where other sellers already offer it.

Platform-Specific Tips

eBay: Free shipping boosts search ranking. Consider building shipping into the price.
