Best Selling Platform by Category

April 2026 Β· 8 min read

Not every platform is good for every item. The right marketplace depends on what you're selling. Here's a category-by-category guide to where your items will sell fastest and net you the most.

Women's Clothing & Accessories

Best: Poshmark (huge fashion audience, social selling), Depop (vintage/trendy, 0% marketplace fee US/UK).
Also good: Mercari, eBay.
Avoid: StockX, GOAT (sneakers only).

Tip: High-end designer pieces do well on Vestiaire Collective (12% but luxury buyers willing to pay premium).

Men's Clothing & Streetwear

Best: Grailed (dedicated menswear audience, 9% commission), Depop (streetwear community).
Also good: eBay, Poshmark.

Tip: Grailed's audience pays premium for streetwear brands. A Supreme hoodie will sell for more on Grailed than Mercari.

Sneakers

Best: StockX (authenticated, transparent pricing, 7–9% Flex fees), GOAT (similar, 9.5% + 2.9% + $5).
Also good: eBay (huge audience, no authentication required).

Tip: For deadstock/new sneakers, StockX/GOAT command higher prices because of authentication trust. For used sneakers, eBay or Mercari. See StockX fees | GOAT fees.

Electronics

Best: eBay (largest tech buyer audience, best search for model numbers).
Also good: Mercari, Facebook Marketplace (local = no shipping), Amazon FBA (for new/sealed items at scale).

Tip: eBay's 13.6% fee is higher than Mercari's 10%, but electronics sell faster on eBay. For high-value electronics ($500+), eBay's tiered rate drops above $7,500.

Handmade & Craft Items

Best: Etsy (the marketplace built for makers).
Also good: Amazon Handmade (bigger audience, higher fees).

Tip: Etsy's fee stack adds up (6.5% + 3% + $0.25 + $0.20 + potential 12–15% Offsite Ads), but no other platform has Etsy's handmade buyer audience. See our Etsy seller guide.

Books, DVDs, Media

Best: eBay (14.6% for media but huge audience), Amazon FBA (best for textbooks and in-demand titles).
Also good: Mercari.

Tip: Amazon's $1.80 media closing fee is unique β€” factor it in. For rare/collectible books, eBay auctions can get premium prices.

Collectibles & Trading Cards

Best: eBay (13.6%, massive collector community), Whatnot (8% commission, live auction energy).

Tip: Whatnot's live selling format creates bidding wars β€” good for cards and collectibles where hype drives prices. See Whatnot fees.

Musical Instruments & Gear

Best: Reverb (specialized audience, 5% commission β€” lowest major marketplace fee).
Also good: eBay.

Tip: Reverb buyers expect detailed condition descriptions and are willing to pay fair prices. See Reverb fees.

Kids' Clothing & Gear

Best: Kidizen (dedicated kids marketplace, 12–15%).
Also good: Mercari, Poshmark, Facebook Marketplace.

Tip: Kids' items are often low-value β€” Kidizen's 12–15% + 2.9% + $0.30 fees are steep on $8 onesies. For cheap kids' items, FB Marketplace local sales (0% fees) might be better.

Furniture & Large Items

Best: Facebook Marketplace (local pickup = no shipping), OfferUp (same concept).

Tip: 0% fees on local cash sales. Shipping furniture is expensive and risky β€” always sell locally if possible.

Luxury Fashion

Best: Vestiaire Collective (12% + authentication, luxury buyer audience).
Also good: Poshmark Luxury, eBay Authenticity Guarantee.

Tip: Vestiaire's authentication adds trust. Buyers pay more for authenticated luxury. See Vestiaire fees.
